Tom graduated from San Rafael High and UC Berkeley in the seventies, making him a member of the “Boomer” generation. He ran XC and track at San Rafael, but opted to focus on his studies at UC.
For the past 20 years, Tom has been a master’s runner with Tamalpa Runners, favoring one mile, 5k, and 10k races, avoiding the marathon or longer distances. When he is not injured, he continues to train regularly and to race occasionally; he often finishes in the top of his age group in local courses. His 50+ and 60+ men’s masters teams at Tamalpa have won the Pacific USATF division team titles in XC multiple times.
Tom practices the Jack Daniel’s training methods and has utilized Jack’s VDOT tables and training plans to help drive training paces, training plans, and racing strategies for the teenagers at Terra Linda High for the past several years. Each runner and each teenager is unique, so Tom listens and works to manage training and racing toward each person’s capabilities.
Tom lives in south Novato with his wife of 40+ years Lillie.
